The city of Lawrence lies on a major east-west
turnpike, Interstate 70. The west Lawrence I-70 exit provides the most
direct route to the KU Campus. The east Lawrence exit leads into downtown
Lawrence, which is northeast of campus. Lawrence has a bus terminal
and a taxi service. KU on wheels, a local bus service, links the campus
with downtown and most major apartment complexes.
Kansas City International Airport lies on I-29, about 22 miles north of downtown
Kansas City. The airport is an hours drive (I-435 South, then I-70 West) to
Lawrence. Refer to the
KCI Airport website for the names and numbers of privately-operated airport shuttles.
Beginning June 2008, road construction on I-70 will
restrict westbound access to the West Lawrence interchange (exit 202).
